Where do I apply for Mother of the Year?

Yesterday, I was at the shop preparing for a baby shower to be held there today and I get a phone call from home. Nothing unusual there ~~ if only it was. But calls from home are quite frequent.

However, this one was a bit different. It consisted of Carly screaming in my ear, "MOM, MY FINGER! COME NOW!!! HURRY!!!!!!" and the phone goes dead.

Now, Carly is known for being dramatic, so even as I was running around grabbing my keys and purse, I am trying to call home. The phone is busy.

My second attempt is met with success and Jacob answers. I hear Carly crying in the background -- not nearly as hysterical as she was, but crying. Jacob sounds perfectly calm so I asked him if Carly is allright. He tells me "Yeah, she tore her fingernail a little and it's bleeding a little." He said he gave her a Tylenol and had put a bandaid on it. All perfectly calm.

I asked him what happened. He said she was playing some singing game, and he and Seth were booing her as brothers and their friends are apt to do. She decided to charge at them and Jacob slammed the bi-fold door between the kitchen and the living room where Bill keeps the TV WAY TOO LOUD. He pinched her finger in it.

I talk to Carly again. She is calming down. I asked it if was bandaged - yes. Did she take Tylenol? Yes. I suggested she go take a nap.

I called in awhile to check on her --- she was napping.

I called a bit later to check on her --- she was watching TV.

I called a bit later to check o n her --- she was playing Wii.

All things that might indicate she had pinched her fingertip.

I get home. I see blood on the floor. Lots of blood on the floor. My first thoughts flash between "That's a lot of blood" and "Why didn't they clean this up?"

Carly walks into the room and as I look at her, look at her bloody shirt, the blood that is still trickling down her finger, I begin to think there may be more to the story than what I was told.

I tell Carly to let me see her fingernail and we take off the bandage and I about pass out.

***Note to Andi *** Read no further. Stop now. Do not advance in this post. Click the little X in the corner and move on to something else that's not about to talk about Carly's finger....

Which from the first knuckle down was just sort of hanging on and it was bent at an odd angle and it obviously needed medical attention. Now. Or several hours before actually.

The finger was broken, the nail had to finish being removed, and it took 9 stitches to close the laceration across her finger. She has to follow up with an orthopedic doctor this week since it basically crushed the end of her finger.

Jacob feels horrible for causing her this pain. Carly feels horrible from the pain and me, well, I'm looking for the nominating committee for my award.
