Surgery & Covid

I had surgery for planter fasciitis this morning and tested positive for my 4th bout of Covid tonight.

The  incision was about the size of a small splinter. It’s crazy how tiny it is.

Bone spurs

So there's a couple of bone spurs on my heel.  Got a steroid shot. I will wear my short boot till I go back, July 16th.  Hopefully, the inflammation will be gone from the shot and all will be well.  My doctor thinks that if the tendon isn't inflamed, the other won't bother me.

The boot

Orthopedic Dr said I have Atypical plantar fasciitis. I have a prednisone dose pack and then steroids when that’s done for another month.  And the dang boot for six weeks.

Slowly but surely

Jacob’s leg 7 week checkup

The doctor is pleased with the progress Jacob is making.  He is starting to work short distances without his crutches and has been going to PT 3 times weekly.

Keegan’s braces -part 2

Well, if you don’t wear your retainers, your teeth will not just stay straight because you will them to. This will be an expensive lesson for Keegan to learn as he had to have his bracesis put back on, but he will be paying for the second time around.

Follow up back appointment

Dr. Ante visit today.  Back brace another 4 - 6 weeks, followed by a couple of months of PT, and a couple more months before being released to play pickleball.

Blood work out of whack.  Going to an endocrinologist for that.

A broken back - ouch!

Well, I made the best shot of my life in Pickleball today. It was amazing. 30 seconds later, I tripped over my own damn feet, fell backwards and broke my back.

It’s fractured at  L1 and so there will be no more amazing shots for awhile. Instead of holding a Pickleball paddle, I have this handy little grabbing tool to pack around with me.

The doctor said I can expect it to hurt for weeks and typically it takes about 10 weeks to heal. The pain when I got to the ER was a solid 14 on a 1-10 scale. After 3 rounds of Dilaudid, it now sits at about an 11.

Let the recovery commence.

Andi’s tendon surgery.

Andi’s surgery went well. The surgeon said there were no surprises, “except her mustache.” She had Shaun draw her mustache to shock the doctors when they pulled down her mask.

Bone shaved in her ankle and tendons fixed in her leg.

Covid all around

Seems as if the entire month of July, someone in our family has had Covid. Shaun had it, then me, then Wesley, Jacob and Peyton.  Jacob was scheduled to begin a good job and it was delayed a week and Wes had to miss 10 days of work for quarantine.

Keegan's leg surgery

Keegan had his surgery this afternoon.  He had 4 screws put in and the doctor was very pleased with how it went.  They did have to cut his foot open to avoid nerves instead of just making a small slit as they had hoped to do, because a tendon was wrapped around the bone from where it was twisted.  All in all, he is one lucky boy.

Broken Leg

Keegan broke his leg last night doing a front flip off the trampoline. He has breaks above, below and through his growth plate. He will have surgery Friday at 2. There are three areas Dr. Daines will be screwing back together.

He will be in a cast for 6-8 weeks, then a boot for a month. He will also have physical therapy. They will do frequent X-rays for a year to keep an eye on his growth, due to break locations. If it looks like it is being affected, they will send him to more specialized surgeon to address that issue.

Of course, Thick Nic came with us. After all, he’s family 😊

Gallbladder surgery

Successful! Andi and Vicki went to the hospital with me and then Gwen came over to spend the afternoon.  We played cards and I ate scrambled eggs, which stayed down.

Goodbye Gallbladder

Well, a quick trip to the ER, a couple of days in the hospital and I have gallbladder removal surgery scheduled for tomorrow. Kinda bummed that it is happening right at the holidays, but neither do I want to live with the pain that sent me to the ER in the first place.

Mono

Keegan has tested positive for mono. He missed all last week of school with temperatures up to almost 105. Mono is very infectious and is commonly spread through sharing of drinks.  It can be 4-6 weeks after exposure before a person shows symptoms.

Keegan is back in school, but his soccer season is on hold.

Keegan - Brace Face
