The meaning of the clock
Last week I wrote that Billski bought me a clock for our anniversary. This is it. I love it - except I'm changing the hands to white ones. But the reason the clock is so important is.....for awhile we've been entertaining the thought of opening a business.
During our Gatlinburg vacation I was at the cabin a lot, but that was the plan, because I was on the phone and email with distributors, businesses and such for hours every day - and when I wasn't I was doing research on prices.
We were not 100% sure we wanted to invest a boat load of money into a business, but ultimately, we decided to go for it. We wanted to make sure that all of our kids had a place that they would be able to work at when they were older. I didn't want to worry about Ryan being made to work a fryer at McDonald's. Or being yelled at for not responding fast enough to some guy's request. He needs time to process things.

I didn't want to think about Carly being led astray by someone she met at work. Carly is so friendly and such a people pleaser -- which can be great, but can also work against her in many situations teens and young adults face. At least this way, someone I trust would be watching over them at all times and I know that they would have a "boss" that understands and accepts them. Hopefully, they would be able to gain the skills they need to become productive adults.
So, the deal was - I found this clock that I loved and I called Bill and told him where it was and it was just the colors I wanted for the shop and if he decided to go ahead with it, then he could get that clock for me if he wanted.
Then I headed for Alaska. He headed for the store, which was about 45 miles away and bought me the clock. Then he called me a few days later to tell me he bought me an anniversary present. A new clock. One that I had picked out. He's such a mush melon.
I have a few things I need to take care of first, but hopefully, by the end of the year, we will have our new business up and running. It is going to be super premium home made ice cream and desserts. Yummy stuff. I can't think about it without thinking about how much my dad would have loved to hang out there every day of the week. I think it will be a shop that all the kids would like to work at. If you're supposed to find a job you like -- well, they all like ice cream and baking, so this should be a good fit for them.
It will be difficult to try and "do it all", so to speak, but I have peace about this decision, so I'm sure God is going to give me the sanity to make sure it all works out. Or the wisdom to know what to let go of.
Still thinking of a name, but so far, Bits and Pieces is the fore runner -- thanks to Tonya, a former lurker, turned friend. Any other ideas for names - just throw them out there. I'll be glad to listen.
