A week later....
I'm finally feeling free from dizziness that I had on almost every moment of the cruise. Some people are made to cruise. Some are not. I am certainly a NOT. The scenery was beyond words -- it was amazing. I was so glad to have a huge window in my room, because I watched a lot of it from my bed.
I'm not fancy schmancy enough for cruise food. Given the 6 choices on the nightly menu, I sometimes recognized one thing - or at least part of it. I never knew what the sauces were that were on the entrees. I did recognize the peanut butter and jelly sandwich I ordered from room service one night. It was yummy. After a few days of eating non recognizable items, I broke down and bought a can of Pringles. For $5.75. That's roughly 6 cents per Pringle. And worth every penny by that time.
Cruisers have a dinner ritual that never ceased to amaze me. Once you were seated - and the guy from the Philippines fluffed your napkin and put it in your lap - the "dance" began. It started with a round of "So, where are you from?" and then it went into how many cruises you had been on, where they were to and what you saw there.
I, of course, being on my first and last cruise, was pretty much a non-participant in this game. Instead, I played the "switch the silverware around and watch the waiters get flustered with me" game. It was quite entertaining and got me through a lot of meals.
I enjoyed the cruise and I thoroughly enjoyed spending the time with my mom, so I certainly don't regret going - but between cruising and my intense dislike of flying, I'm sticking to driving to my vacation destinations from now on.
