Praying for Sophie
It appears that Sophie has not grown in the last several weeks. We've known for a while that things were not exactly as they should be. Barring intervention from God, Sophie won't grow much more than the weight she is now - which is small, but certainly not teeny tiny.
Through no fault of her own, Andi's placenta has basically pooped out. Every test indicates that Sophie is healthy - just small. About the most we can hope for at this point is that Sophie will be close to 5 pounds.
My son, Zac, weighed less than half of that at birth so 5 pounds is a pretty good size in comparison. We don't anticipate Sophie having any problems due to her size and she should be caught up with others her age in a year or so.
Andi and Big Jacob were quite shaken up at first, but rest in the assurance that God is in control and had a plan for Sophie even before she was formed in Andi's womb. There's no better assurance to have than that One who created her, continues to watch out for her.
Andi, my sister-in-law Kathy and I went shopping for preemie clothes Saturday at several consignment stores, so at least Sophie will have something to wear when she gets to come home from the hospital.
Andi is being closely monitored and having tests done several times a week. At the first sign that Sophie might be in distress, Andi will be immediately admitted for delivery.
After her test today I asked the doctor what would be the reason for keeping Sophie inside rather than out when obviously she can be better nourished after birth. He agreed that she will get better nourishment after birth, but for now she is getting adequate nourishment from Andi - to maintain her body weight. However, if they have to induce Andi and her cervix wasn't ready then that would increase the odds of her having to have a c-section. Since the doctors in this area do not usually do VBACs, this would mean all of her children would be c-section. That is a risk he is not willing to take unless Sophie's health becomes an issue.
So there is the latest new on Sophie. Prayers would be appreciated for both Sophie and her parents. I'll keep you posted. That's what us Mamaw's do.
