The anti-crafty one
That's what Andi calls herself. This year someone requested a home-made gift from Andi. She has fretted and worked on this project longer than I've ever seen her work on anything. And it's not coming out exactly as she had envisioned. Or even close.
Which is too bad because she has too much money tied up in it to abandon it and start over. However, she has made up her mind that in the future if anyone asks her to make a hand made item, she is just going to give them the money and send them to Michael's to buy it themselves.
Jacob just wandered by as Andi was muttering. When he asked her why she just didn't tell them she couldn't do it, Andi's immediate reply was, "I'd rather prove it to them."
Time passes....more setbacks....later mutterings to herself include....
"At this point, things can only go downhill -- uphill is totally out of the equation."
"I should just post a sign up that says Abandon All Hope."
"OK, this is the plan - we're going to just burn this and never mention it again."
When I asked her to look at my new camera I'm getting for Christmas, her reply was, "Just a second, I'm still busy ruining this."
"You know there's really something to be said about store bought presents. Because by the time it gets done, it's not even made with love. It's made with frustration."
Time passes, more setbacks and when I asked what would happen if she cut this particular pattern out, her reply was, "Well, then I would earn my merit badge for scissor skills. Do you have any good ideas to offer?"
Sometimes her wit comes out at its best, when she's at her worst.
This present will be fine when all is said (and much has been said) and done and I'm sure the recipient will love it.
