Why did only Jacob get to go?"

To answer the question of why I only took Jacob with me today to Kentucky to see a replica of the Nina and Pinta, I would have to provide a bit of background. These ships were completely handcrafted without the use of power tools and there was a wonderful article in the paper the other day telling about them and the stop they were making in Owensboro. Tickets were $5.00 for kids. I showed the article to the kids and told them to read it since it was very interesting.

Jacob read it. Carly did not. Wesley did not. Ryan did not. This became quickly apparent when I asked them questions about the article.

I asked who would like to go see it -- but they would have to use their own money for a ticket. Jacob did. Carly did not. Wesley did not. Ryan did not.

I asked who would like to go see it -- but they would have to pay half of the ticket. Jacob said he didn't care if he had to pay it all. Carly did not want to pay any. Wesley did not want to pay any. Ryan did not want to pay any.

I asked who wanted to go if I paid ALL the ticket. Jacob wanted to go. Carly did not. Wesley did not. Ryan did not.

I asked who wanted to go if I paid ALL the ticket and then took them to lunch. Everyone wanted to go.

Armed with that knowledge, I took only Jacob. I knew the others would be just bugging us to hurry through the boat tour because they showed absolutely no interest in going prior to the lunch offer. We ended up joining a group of homeschoolers who happened to be there and really enjoyed ourselves as we listened to the tour guide. The craftsmanship was truly amazing - and the thought of being cramped on that boat for months with dozens of other people made us have a whole new respect for explorers.

After we had spent all the time we wanted dreaming about the past -- we went to lunch and Jacob experienced his first "Never Ending Pasta Bowl" at Olive Garden. And despite his big plans, he ended at one.
