What's the hurry?

Six weeks ago today was the 5K walk/run for Studio Bee. I was going to enter it since it was for a good cause, but a practice walk convinced me otherwise. I knew I would never finish.

Today, however, I entered one to support Relay for Life. I finished it.
Sure, I was in last place, but I finished. My friends that walked "with" me, were out of my sight within the first 10 minutes. I match them stride for stride, their stride is just about 6 inches longer than mine which makes Perri Pace too slow for them, but it suits me just fine.

You know how runners take their water, drink it and throw their cups on the ground? I couldn't do that. I took the water, finished it, and then threw my cup away in the sack of the poor girl picking up the trash thrown by others. I just don't have it in me to litter.

Then I saw a baby bootie by the side of the road, no doubt kicked off by one of the babies in the stroller patrol that had passed me earlier. I picked it up, hoping to reunite it with the owner at the finish line. I watched some worms crossing the road as I meandered along.

I probably really fell behind as we passed the cemetery because I have an inclination to read headstones. Very interesting stuff sometimes.

All in all, I was very pleased. Especially since I am sick. I have one of the worst summer colds of my life. But I was not going to let that defeat me, so I got up extra early this morning to take some Benedryl and hope it kicked in before the walk began.

If I keep the pace at the half marathon that I had today, I will finish in time to get a medal. So last place was good enough for me.
