My mouf iz on fire
Falling into the "it's always something" category would be Andi's experience yesterday. She called me right about 5 to tell me her mouth was on fire. Only it came out in some mumbly jumbly sound like she was under water.
We were both on our way to sewing class, so when we got there, she got out of her car and I saw she had an ice pack held up to her face. Hmmm. Wasn't really expecting that.
As I get closer she removes the ice pack and her appearance is that of the recipient of a very bad botox lip injection. She sticks out her tongue and it has little red blisters forming all over it. Turns out while she was weeding at the garden center where she works, it just started burning. She doesn't think there were chemicals on the weeds - just weeds. She had already taken benedryl and I gave her some Tylenol when we went inside.
She only lasted about 15 minutes before she decided to go get it checked at the hospital because the burning was not getting any better. I finished my project and went to check on her about an hour later. I mean, really - it was just a burning mouth.
Imagine my surprise when I get to the ER, go around the curtain and she is hooked up to a heart monitor, oxygen and has an IV running. The doctor comes in and tells me she looks much better than she did.
Whatever it was that she got into started swelling her tongue and then her throat. They had already given her 2 shots of epinephrine and had IV steroids and benedryl running in her. She was looped to put it nicely.
The doctor thinks whatever she had gotten on her glove when she was weeding, she transferred to her mouth when she wiped the sweat off her face with her hand.
A few hours later she was released with prescription antihistamines and a steroid pack. I haven't checked with her yet today, but hopefully she is feeling much better and can talk without drooling :)
