"Mom, I've got a great life."

The other night as I was brushing my teeth (surprise!) in my bathroom, Jacob was lying on my bed, waiting for me to read to him, when I heard him say, "Mom, I've got a great life."

I told him to hold that thought, because I didn't want to miss this any of this conversation.

As I left the bathroom, I asked him what he meant and he just rattled off the following reasons why his life is awesome:

"I don't have to worry about dying like some people do because I know I am going to be in heaven. I bet some people are afraid to think about dying, but I know I'll be with God."

"I live in a country that has more freedom than anywhere else in the world."

"I get to be homeschooled, so I can learn more about God -- and I can learn about anything else I want to whenever I want to."

"I have a great family that doesn't care how dorky I act, they still love me."

"I have a dad that works hard at his job so you can stay home with us. Hardly any of my friends have moms who don't work."

"We have cars that run and we don't have to walk everywhere."

"I live in a house that is air conditioned - can you imagine being homeless in this heat?"

"We get to go places all the time."

"I have some great friends and I really like their parents, too."

"I really have it good, no great, Mom. I'm gonna pray right now and thank God for all these blessings. Wanna join me?"

You bet I did -- and added some of my own, including a son, who at the age of 11 is able to verbalize what some adults take for granted and would never consider as blessings.
