Well, Skittle Dee Dee
My neighbors had a yard sale this weekend. I bought a few things, Andi and Heidi bought a lot. But the kids LOVE one thing I bought --
It also came with about 4 gallons of large bubble gum balls. They are too large to go into the machine though, so I bought Skittles. This will prove to be a whole new lesson in saving money.
Billski and I did a few test runs and for each 2 dollars worth of Skittles, we will be "earning" about 16 bucks. Of course, the money comes from us in the first place and ultimately the money from the machine will go into the vacation fund - but somewhere in the middle of all that, the kids will be making money decisions - quarter by quarter.
Carly has saved enough of her snack money to open a bank account and thankfully, we did that last week. Otherwise, she would have been bugging me to let her buy some Heelies that were at the yard sale. It never entered her mind she could take money out of the bank and I never suggested it.
If you don't know how to do home math, this problem would look something like:
Carly + Heelies = Emergency Room
Besides, Jacob has barely worn the ones he bought, so she will have ample opportunity to break her arm for free in the near enough future.
