Normally I don't write about things in the news
but this story was great. If you don't have time to read it, here's the condensed version.
College girls softball playoffs. A senior hits her first home run ever, sending in two other runners. As she runs to first, she injures her knee, possibly tearing her ligament. She collapses, unable to go further. The game stops.
The umpire says that a sub runner can come in - the runners would go back and advance one base and the home run gets counted as a single. The first base umpire says if her team mates try to help her she would be called out.
So the first baseman on the OTHER team asks a question, gets an answer and then she -- who happens to be the career conference leader in home runs - and one of HER team mates, carry their opponent around the field, letting her good leg gently tag the bases, allowing her earn her home run and eliminating their own team from the playoffs.
The first baseman later said, "In the end, it is not about winning and losing so much," It was about this girl. She hit it over the fence and was in pain, and she deserved a home run."
And that, in my opinion, is a sports story worth talking about.
