Totally random wrapup of the week
Every time the kids unload the dishwasher, they pass the dishes along an assembly line, telling what imaginary dish is on the plate. So the unloading process goes something like "spaghetti, chicken and dumplings, pop tarts, meat loaf special, eggs over easy and so on. Once the last dish is done, the cabinet door is closed with a resounding thud and they all say "Order up!" I told them that looked like fun and Wesley said, "It makes the chore seem like a game." Never a bad thing.
I went on a little thing I call The CASA Diet this week. It's a diet based on doing the right thing, knowing you are breaking a rule and will no doubt get a bit of your butt chewed off. Lucky I had some to spare. I went to the courthouse for my -- what I will kindly refer to as a reprimand - and listened to all they had to say and I told the judge if he wanted me to say I was wrong, then I would - but if he wanted me to say I was sorry I did it - well that wasn't happening.
So we sort of agreed to disagree and go on about our business. Of course I removed my self from the case for conflict of interest - but a baby was safe and after all, isn't that supposed to be my job? I'll continue to do what's best for the kids until they kick me out whether or not I make the judges happy. Although judges sometimes think of themselves as God, they aren't and I told him that ultimately I had to answer to God for my actions and I felt sure that God was OK with me helping this family out.
Then I got home and found this wonderful letter in my in-box which read in part, "Hi there, Perri. My name is Karina. I just wanted to say HI and thank you for your blog. I've been enjoying dropping into your blog for a few many months, daily, and no longer wish to stay invisible. I happened upon your blog after finding Heart of Wisdom site where I found your homeschool story. I'm a huge fan now! ;o)
Life throws us curve balls, but in the midst of it all, I'm grateful to God for having found your blog. Your realness is a real encouragement, and I find myself so refreshed and praying for you and your family and friends.
How nice is that? I've never heard of the Heart of Wisdom site, but I was glad to receive such a nice letter after the meeting I just came out of. So welcome to my blog, Karina from Canada :) and thanks for taking the time to write. It was perfect timing. It is awesome to know that people who I didn't even know existed are praying for my family and friends.
Just in case you ever find yourself canceling a caving trip the day after an earthquake, be aware there is a no refund policy at Marengo Cave. Just pucker up and kiss that $150.00 bucks good bye. Do it with a smile since it's a small price to pay so you don't have to spend the day worrying about a cave-in.
Jacob had his friends that were going to the cave spend the night and they were outside at the crack of dawn playing football in the back yard. In the sprinkling rain. After a bit they went down to the elementary school and played in the drizzling rain. While they were there, the huddled in the tunnels -- during the pouring rain. In effect, they had their own cave day since they showed back up at the house, cold, wet and thoroughly happy. After showering, they are now happy to be playing inside.
I'm going to the roller derby tonight with some friends and then doing some cooking after church tomorrow afternoon. The kids and I are going to my dads for a few days this week to try and help him get some things done to sell his house. He's planning on moving to Evansville, and I'll be glad to have him so much closer.
I still have to break the news to the kids that they are doing a day of school this afternoon and another one after church so that we don't have to mess with that at Pappaw's house. I know that will just make them sooooo happy with me.
