So the plan was to watch movies, eat spiral ham
& have a cinnamon roll as a late night snack last night. Jada came over to get in on this plan, since Ben was at the retreat also.
As plans often seem to do around here, they took a detour. Jessica had been watching Sophie for awhile yesterday and her mom, Heidi, called to say Sosie had a fever.
I went to pick her up and as the evening went on, her fever wouldn't come down. I went to help Sherie for awhile while Andi and Jada hung out here. Andi went back and forth about calling the doctor and had decided against it.
Then I walked in the door and my first words were, "Why are Sophie's hands purple?" And indeed they were. They were very purple, dusky looking. In just a couple of minutes, she started really having the chills. You know how adults shake when they have the chills - tiny kids shake a lot more.
So Andi called her doctor. The downfall of small town life is that there are no on-call doctor facilities. There is your doctor office - and the ER. Well, Sosie had her first ER visit last night. Jada and I accompanied and spent some quality time being frustrated at the lack of cell phone towers near the camp where Big Guy was retreating and discussing the movie which was at home on the kitchen table in the plastic bag.
When I took her temperature at home, it showed 101.4. About 15 minutes later at the ER, it showed 103.9. They think she just has a virus, gave her some antibiotic just to be sure and a few hours later we were back home. This morning she is indeed much perkier.
When I went to the neighboring town at midnight to get her prescription filled (another downside) I bought an ear thermometer from Walgreens. The Walgreens brand one. Don't bother. It will be returned.
When I got it back home it read Andi's temp at 97, mine at 101.6 and Sophie - the one with the fever.........95.
It didn't' do any better on anyone else this morning, so save your 30 bucks and buy a spiral ham. And then I suggest eating it on the way home.
