Roman Classics Camp
The kids are going to a day camp this week. Monday thru Friday from 9 - 3. Below is a brief syllabus for the camp. It does not include everything Geography and literature - which is studied every day.
Monday: Students will study the founding of Rome and the rule of the kings, learn Latin greetings, learn about Roman towns, paint a fresco, learn about social classes and family structure, make a pot, and learn about how the Romans believed the world began.
Tuesday: Students will study the Roman Republic, learn how to exchange names in Latin, study the Roman army, paint Roman weapons, learn about Rome's political and legal structure, make a Roman tambourine, and learn about some of the major Roman gods.
Wednesday: Students will study the high times of the Roman empire, learn to talk about the weather in Latin, study Roman houses and fashion, make a mosaic, learn about Roman food production and the Roman countryside, make Roman Jewelry, and study more of the major Roman gods.
Thursday: Students will study Rome to the time of Diocletian, learn the body parts in Latin, study Roman entertainment (including the races and the theatre), make a laurel wreath, learn about Commerce, Architecture, and Transportation in the Roman Empire, make a Roman scroll, and learn about the minor Roman gods.
Friday: Students will study Rome's fall, learn various Latin phrases, study Roman education, make a wax tablet, learn about birth, death, marriage, and medicine in the Roman Empire, make a Bulla, and learn about the various Roman legendary heroes.
No doubt they will have a blast and come home knowing more than I do about Roman times. I can't imagine what to do with such a stretch of time without any kids around every day -- but I'm sure I'll find something to do!
