Save Yourself
Sophie and Keegan spent the night Wednesday and we went to see the movie Shrek at the theater. By the time we got home, teeth brushed, pjs on, diaper changed, etc., it was closing in on 10:30.
Way past bedtime. For me. They didn't seem to share my enthusiasm for the proposed bedtime. Keegan was in my bed and Sophie in Carly's and that was where they were supposed to stay.
Notice I say supposed to stay. In fact, I heard Keegan go back and forth across the hallway about a dozen times, every time, me telling him to go back to bed and stay there. Sophie would wander in to see me and tell me something interesting about life. At some point, Sophie had gotten re-dressed and out of her pjs, but I didn't even care by then. That was about 11:00. Mamaws are tired and grouchy by 11 pm.
I told them if they got up again, I was going to spank them. Words they don't often hear from me and maybe didn't quite believe. Sophie came back into the kitchen about 3 minutes later and she saw me reaching for my baby paddle.....a one gallon paint stirring stick. She quickly informs me, "Mamaw, I just need to go to the bathroom." ....and hurriedly does just that.
About 5 minutes passed, Keegan tries the same thing...with the bathroom excuse. Since potty training has never entered his mind until that second, that just didn't cut it and he got a quick swat on his leg. Through his long legged pajamas even, but you would have thought he had suffered an amputation.
As he goes wailing back down the hallway, Sophie whispers from the darkness of Carly's room, "Keegan, did you get a spanking?"
"Yessssssssssss", he moaned.
"Do you want me to kiss it for you?" she asked with sisterly love -- and in his protective brother mode, he quickly answered....
"NO, STAY IN BED!!!"
and she wisely did.
