Happy 10th birthday, Ryan

Today marks a decade of Ryan being alive. He's a quirky kid. Lots of attitude - not all of it good. He is an under the breath mutterer when he gets in trouble - which he is finally learning only gets him into more.

He has a few obsessions -- always, always germs and currently hundred dollar bills. That is his main concern right now - the money. He really wants to have a one hundred dollar bill when he grows up and his thoughts run from what does a hundred dollars buy to how much time he will have to spend away from his children to make a hundred dollars.

If it's too much time away from his family, he thinks he will just print some at home. I've tried to explain that will result in a bit more time away from his family than he would like.

He also thinks that he might invest in some freckle remover with his hundred bucks. I hope not. He can't believe the possibility that when he is grown he will still have freckles because "tall people can not have freckles."

He vows to always fish at City Lake - no matter how old he gets. He also vows to never eat fish.

Atticus is his buddy. Every night before he goes to bed, he has to go find his "baby" to kiss him goodnight.

The other day he was watching a show on TV about orphans who didn't have enough food. He came to tell me that "water was coming out of my eyes." It didn't occur to him that he was crying from compassion. He asked me if I thought his eyes didn't like what they were seeing and was trying to wash out the pictures. I told you -- quirky.

He is not too keen on the fact that he has to go to school on his birthday and really wanted to stay home for the day -- but I explained birthdays were not holidays in public school, so off he went.

When he gets home at noon, his birthday dinner request -- chili cheese dogs and macaroni and cheese, will be waiting on him, so maybe that will make up for some of the indignation he felt at this whole lack of national celebration of the date of his birth.

Ryan is my baby. And I love him bunches. Happy birthday, Ryan.
