Adam & Andrew
Not a day goes by in our house that a child doesn't pray for Adam & Andrew to grow up strong and healthy and to love and serve God. Not a day. My little kids have been praying daily for these boys for over a year now. And they are growing up strong and healthy. Many babies aren't so lucky. Lindsey is Adam and Andrew's mom and sent this letter the other day:
Dear Friend,
As many of you know our twin boys, Andrew & Adam (http://www.marchforbabies.org/adam_andrew) were born over 14 weeks prematurely (nearly 3.5 months) in December 2006. Andrew weighed a mere 1 lb 11 oz and Adam weighed 2 lbs, they were only 13 and 13.5 inches long. 48 hours after they were born they both underwent emergency life saving surgery to close a valve near their heart that was causing their lungs to fill up with blood.
A week after they were born we learned that they had both suffered hemorrhaging in their brains. Andrew’s was classified as a Grade IV, the most severe and damaging type of brain bleed. We were told that he would likely be severely disabled, both physically and mentally.
Andrew & Adam spent six weeks on life support and a total of 76 & 79 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. When they finally came home they were both still on continuous oxygen support and monitors which would alert us if they were to stop breathing or had a drop in heart rate. In August they had to have surgery to repair hernias and then starting in September had to wear orthotic helmets for 2.5 months to correct a prematurity related skull deformity.

Now 13 months old Andrew & Adam have beaten all the odds and are thriving. They have recently learned to crawl and now weigh 18 and 23 lbs! They have to work very hard to reach their milestones and are both receiving physical and occupational therapy. We are so blessed to have them in our lives, they are truly miracles in every way and bring us so much joy.
This year Andrew & Adam are participating in March for Babies to raise money for the March of Dimes. Together we hope to prevent premature birth and to improve the outcomes for survivors. We believe every baby deserves their full 9 months.
I’m not one that likes to ask for money and I don’t want anyone to feel obligated to sponsor Andrew & Adam but over the last year so many people have asked us how they can help us and so we want to let everyone that is interested know that they can help in a very tangible way by sponsoring Andrew & Adam as they “March for Babies”. It’s quick and easy to give online at http://www.marchforbabies.org/adam_andrew or to join our team and walk with us.
Many people don’t know what a tragedy premature birth is and that prematurity doesn’t end when you leave the NICU. Our babies and so many like them are at risk for many life long problems including: Cerebral Palsy, Autism, blindness, hearing impairment, failure to thrive, feeding disorders, Chronic Lung Disease, Asthma, learning disabilities, Sensory Integration Disorder, mental health and behavior disorders, and even the childhood cancer Hepatoblastoma.
We would be so grateful if you would consider giving to this very worthy cause.

Are those guys cute or what?!? The kids have been looking around for a project to concentrate their efforts on since we finished our Smile Train money jar. They saved and sent their $250.00 to pay for a surgery for a child.
This March of Dimes walk is going to be their new project. Not only will they be saving money in honor of Adam and Andrew, but also in honor of their big brother, Zac, who started life at 2 pounds, 3 ounces.
Jacob and Carly have already made plans to sell snow cones again (look how short her hair is!), but given that the current temperature hovers around 20, I've convinced them to wait a while for that.
