And in other news...........Keegan

Andi went to the doctor today (can you say again?) and although she was just there Sunday, things had changed quite a bit and not for the better. She had dilated 1.5 cm more, despite being on 2 medicines to stop contractions.

The doctor immediately sent her to the triage center to get a shot of Betamethasone, a steroid to help develop Keegan's lungs, should he be born prematurely. She will go tomorrow for a second shot. She is not on total bed rest, but on "do as little as possible" rest.

This type of bed rest also means that she isn't allowed to travel. Which means she can't go to Indianapolis for a CASA conference we were to go to in 2 weeks. Nor to a PEERS conference at the end of the month. Or to a COLTS football game she has tickets to go to in 2 weeks. She is bummed about all of these.

Of course, the medicine literature states.... "When preterm birth between 24 and 34 weeks of pregnancy (gestation) is expected within 7 days, betamethasone or dexamethasone is given to the mother in order to affect the fetus. " So she may be delivered and good to go.

Now, I don't know if the doctor expects her to deliver that soon. Last week he felt very sure she would be able to go for quite awhile and today he said he "will be very surprised" if she makes it to 35 weeks. She is barely 31 weeks now. Sunday, according to the ultrasound, Keegan weighed 3' 4".

The doctor told her that if Keegan were born in the next few days that he would most likely not have to be intubated, but would require some assistance with breathing for a few days. These shots basically advance the baby's lungs by four weeks, so it is a huge advantage to be able to have them.

Although we are not worried, prayers for Andi and Keegan would be appreciated. As always, our mighty and awesome God is in control of this situation and he has His hand on it.
