Could it just be the 24th birthday jinx?

I had the sweetest lady, Rachel, comment on my cake disaster, which lead me to her cake disaster, which leads me to believe that it's either "the 24th birthday jinx" OR it's the rhyming name jinx. Her husband, Randy, recently celebrated his 24th birthday and THIS is what his cake looked like.

I'm feeling better about mine. Except I forgot the candles, which you have to admit - add a touch of class.

I have been asked by several people if I let my cake cool before frosting it. Andi's cake cooled for about 3 hours in the pan. Is that long enough or should I wait longer?
