Bethany
I got a call early this week from Louise. Louise's husband was the minister of the small Baptist church I attended for years as a child - until I left home. She was coming to town for the weekend and attending our old church and wanted me to come down and bring the kids. She has never gotten to meet Carly or Ryan and has heard so much about them over the years, she wanted to see them for herself.
Bright and early this morning, Andi, Jacob, Carly, Wesley, Ryan and I were on a road trip to Kentucky. Bill couldn't come because he had a meeting after church about an upcoming mission trip to Mexico he is going on.
Louise looks wonderful and was dressed as smartly as ever. Andi says she dresses like Jackie O. I think that is exactly right. I'm sure she must be very close to, if not over 80. She looks as if she hasn't aged in 20 years. It was great to see Louise and it was with a tear in my eye that I kissed her goodbye for what I am sure will be the last time I will see her this side of heaven.
The church had not changed much at all. The avocado green appliances and black coffee cups were still in the kitchen. There were several familiar faces and many that were no longer there. It was sad to see a church that was full of families down to about 40 people attending. The kids were very well behaved and I was proud of all of them. I'm glad I went, but I certainly came away with an even greater appreciation for my own church.
