I Heart Laura Ingalls Wilder
but not nearly as much as Carly does. Friday night was Carly's first official meeting of the Little House on the Prairie Book Club. After the solemn swearing in ceremony, where 17 little Laura wannabes pledged their loyalty to fun and reading, the fun began.
On the agenda was painting a treasure box to hold their prized possessions...in Laura's case, a penny. They were decorated with split peas, beans and buttons.
Before it got dark outside and we had to break out the lanterns, the girls began the process of making their corn cob dolls. The cobs were shucked, the corn removed and the cobs washed thoroughly to make them soft for snuggling.
They will finish their dolls at the next meeting.
After that, the girls headed to the kitchen to make some home made butter that they ate on their corn cakes.
After looking through postcards showing pictures of the real Ingalls family, they read a bit from the first book, "Little House in the Big Woods" and had a Bible devotion based on the book.
As they left, they were presented with their official I Love Laura Ingalls Wilder pin and bookmark and we went home to our own little house.
