Carly on crutches
Not a good thing. I think it was immediately after I texted Andi that we were finishing up in the ER and Carly would be on crutches that she sent back the message along the lines of she and Big Guy were taking bets on what Carly would break while using crutches.
Not break as in a table. Break as in a bone. Carly is not known for her gracefulness. In fact, it's quite the opposite. At LEAST once a day, you will hear a loud clatter and she will yell, "I'm OK." and you just continue on with what you are doing, safe in the knowledge that everything is normal.
When she fell yesterday, she didn't hop up with an "I'm OK." There were many tears involved and exclamations of pain when her foot was manipulated. Carly is not a kid who cries wolf or even a kid who cries much for that matter. So I knew she was in pain. Her foot immediately started swelling and bruising, so I had no qualms at all about taking her to the ER to get an x-ray.
If Andi were writing this post, this is where she would insert something about how HER foot hurt FOREVER before I took her to the ER when she was in the first grade. When I finally did take her, x-rays showed it was broken ----- and had been for about a month. Maybe hers should have bruised or swelled and I would have taken her sooner. Who knows what lessons could be learned here?
But Carly's x-rays appeared normal and I'm thankful for that. I'm VERY thankful that she will only be using crutches for a week or so. It only took two trips down the steps in our house before she fell down them, using the crutches. Now, she has to go up and down them on her butt.
It's gonna be a long week.
