Change is in the air
We've been homeschooling now for six years and I really enjoy the freedom it gives us as well as the chance to spend my days with some of my favorite people in the world.
That being said, we are getting ready to do things a bit differently. The kids are being tested on Wednesday morning and will be enrolled in a Christian school in town, which has a homeschool program. We will be using the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum, which is a series of 12 booklets for each subject in each grade.
After they are tested, they will start wherever it is they need to start - not where their age dictates they should be. So they may be ahead in some subjects and behind in others. They will be studying Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Spelling every day. Later on, they can add electives if they want.
They will be doing all of their daily work at home and when they finish each booklet, will be going to the school to take a test. That should be about every 3 weeks or so. The school will keep records, issue report cards and ultimately, their diplomas.
My kids will also be eligible to participate in any activities, field trips or sports teams that the school has. This was something that we had intended to do later on, but with everything that has been going on, we are going to go ahead and do it now. I don't want to be preoccupied and let something slip by.
