Weekend of Firsts

Still working on a list that I made with Sophie and Keegan last summer of things they wanted to do. So this weekend, we crammed in several things.  The only place they knew we were going was to an aquarium.    We started off Saturday morning going to Mareango Cave. They were so excited because we were supposed to do this last summer, but got waylaid by my leg surgery. They really enjoyed the cave and the panning for gold afterwards.

After a  quick change into more weather appropriate clothes, it was off to the Newport Aquarium, by Cincinnati.  There, Sophie touched sting rays, starfish, urchins and a shark.  Keegan looked at stuff closely, but kept an eye on the nearest hand dispenser of Germ-Ex for Sophie to use after her adventures.  Everyone agreed that the penguins are the best animals there.

After a quick trip to IKEA, we headed to our motel outside of Louisivlle and went straight to bed.  After Keegan and I went searching for breakfast, the kids went swimming.  Keegan was so funny.    I asked him if he knew where a McDonald's was. He said he did. I asked him where it was and he proceeded to give me perfect directions....from his house to the one in Boonville.

We headed to the waterfront for our final destination - a huge surprise and I wish I had a picture of their faces when they realized what we were going to do. It was so precious. We went on the Belle of Louisville for a 2 hour cruise. They had never been on a boat and they loved every second of it!  There was even dancing on board and Sophie ended up being picked to lead the chicken dance.  She was terrific at it and got to keep the chicken hat.

All in all, we had a fantastic trip and marked several things off the "I really want to do this" list.
