Was it just Monday
that I typed........."I don't have to enroll him in school and they will not keep attendance on him. If we have something else to do, he just won't go. You really can't ask for more than that from your local public school." Well, after our meeting Monday, there was a flurry of phone calls and Ryan did not start school on Wednesday as we had planned because of a paperwork problem. Then came the call this morning......
Seems there was a new law that went into effect in Indiana on August 1st. Something that you would think school systems should be aware of. The law puts the brakes on having any dual enrolled students -- such as public and homeschooled.
Which in effect means Ryan would have to go to Oakdale full time. As much as I like Oakdale - Andi and Zac both went there - we are just not ready for that to happen. Obviously, he can learn at home. Plus he wouldn't see Bill at all during the week since Bill works second shift. So we were back to homeschooling only.............................
Then -- AS I was typing the above, the school psychologist calls again. Seems they've been doing some more investigating and as long as I don't put Ryan down as being homeschooled and I'm willing to enroll him as a student, then they will write his I.E.P. (Individual Education Plan) stating that he only needs to attend school for 1/2 days. Meaning he would get the services we had discussed, get out at the same time and everything would be as we had planned originally -- only within the boundary of the new law. A loophole of sorts.
So, now -- . School is out Friday and Monday for fall break and he will start Tuesday morning. If it doesn't work out, it will be back to homeschooling only.
